Character Development Plan
At Withymoor Primary School, we believe that education is about developing the whole child. Our Character Development Plan is designed to nurture confident, respectful, resilient and responsible young people who are well prepared for life beyond the classroom.
Through a carefully planned programme of learning experiences, enrichment opportunities, leadership roles and community involvement, we help pupils develop the personal qualities and values needed to succeed in modern Britain. Character development is embedded throughout school life and complements our academic curriculum, ensuring that children grow both intellectually and personally.
Our work is underpinned by our core school values: We are Resilient, Safe, Respectful and Ready to Learn. We encourage all children to demonstrate these values in their daily actions and interactions, guided by our simple but powerful principle: "We treat others as we want to be treated." These values help pupils develop positive relationships, make thoughtful choices and build the confidence to face challenges with determination.
Our Character Development Plan supports the aims of the National Curriculum by promoting pupils' spiritual, moral, social and cultural (SMSC) development, as well as the teaching of British Values. It helps children develop essential life skills such as resilience, teamwork, leadership, empathy, responsibility and respect for others. Through these experiences, pupils learn how to contribute positively to their school, local community and the wider world.
At Withymoor Primary School, we are committed to developing successful learners and well-rounded individuals. By fostering strong character alongside academic excellence, we prepare our pupils to become responsible citizens who are ready for the next stage of their education and equipped for future success.
