Withymoor News
Earlier this month, children at Withymoor enjoyed a visit from Pep the Poet, organised and funded by Friends of Withymoor.
Everyone met 'Pep' during our whole school assembly and had the chance to listen to him performing some of his poems. Pep then delivered poetry workshops to every year group in school, where children had the chance to listen to more of his hilarious and thoughtful poems and even helped to perform them too! The children had a fabulous time listening to, and learning, poems such as 'Brummie Bumble Bee', 'Terry the Tadpole' (all the way from Liverpool!) and 'The Chicken Rap' as well as many others.
Pep the Poet also kindly donated four signed copies of his books to our school library, so children can re-visit his poems whenever they want to.
Thank you to Pep and Friends of Withymoor for an amazing day!
The attached information is about an app that supports parental controls. With Family Link, you decide what’s best for your family. There's easy to use tools allow you to understand how your child is spending time on their device, share location, manage privacy settings, and ultimately ensure their safety online. In school, we have support from RM managing our network, a firewall and Smoothwall system that filters what our staff and children have access to. We teach the children about keeping safe online but they do not use their own devices in school. One of our parents showed me this app and how it works - it really is worth a look. The app is free and is compatible with Android and Apple products.
Today was the first Year 5 cooking club hosted by the Fruits of the Forest team. Our 'chefs' were excited to start and had the best time.
Launch of Dudley's Cost of Living Support Hubs |
Launch 30th January 2023
|
We are delighted to announce that Citizens Advice Dudley and Wolverhampton, in conjunction with Dudley Empowerment Partnership, supported by DMBC Public Health and the NHS Black Country ICB, are opening 4 Cost of Living Support Hubs starting 30th January which will be running for the next 12 months.
The decision to set up these cost of living support hubs was made in response to feedback from members of the public, who told us they are struggling to meet the rising basic day to day living costs including the ongoing climb in energy prices. As you will be more than aware, across the country, organisations and charities are struggling to meet demand and national data projects many more people will be affected in 2023.
“Britain is facing its biggest cost-of-living crisis in decades. As the largest provider of free advice across the UK, Citizens Advice is helping more people with crisis support, energy problems and not having enough money to make ends meet than ever before. We're helping as many people as possible." with crisis support, such as referrals to food banks and emergency charitable support. The demand for our services within Citizens Advice Dudley and Wolverhampton is unprecedented and so we are hoping that our crisis hubs will give that much needed immediate, emergency relief so many people are telling us they need. Dudley’s Cost of Living Support Hubs are here to alleviate some of the immediate struggles households face to afford food, pay bills and buy essentials.

I have recently had complaints from some parents and carers about people smoking close to our school gates in the morning and at the end of the day. If you smoke or vape when bringing or collecting your child from school, for the comfort and health of other families, I would be grateful if you could stand away from the school entrance/school gates while you are smoking. Thank you for your co-operation.

Flu is circulating and it is important that your child receives their flu vaccination to keep them well and protect family and friends from flu too. With other viruses and winter infections presently circulating at high levels, the flu vaccine gives added protection by helping reduce the risk of getting flu at the same time as another illness, which could cause complications.
If your child missed their opportunity to receive their flu vaccine at school a catch-up clinic is available on Saturday 14th January, 9am–1:30pm, at Bilal Mosque, 58 New Hampton Rd W, Wolverhampton, WV6 0RU.
The clinic is by appointment only. Appointments can be booked by calling 01902 200077.
Information about the flu vaccine for children can be found on the Black Country Integrated Care Board and NHS websites.
If you have queries regarding vaccines and porcine gelatine, please see the attached leaflet.
Protect your child against flu - Information for parents and carers of children in primary school leaflets in a selection of languages can be found on the gov.uk website.
A huge Thank You to IJJ Engineering Limited who have kindly donated some lunchtime playground equipment for the children at Withymoor. We will be showing the children the huge range of games and activities in assembly - they will be very excited to play with them next week. We really appreciate this generous gift.
Well done to our amazing team of cleaners who achieved a perfect score of 100% in their recent inspection. A huge thank you for their hard work and always aiming for excellence.
